Discovering Seoul's Glittering Heart: A Guide to Jongno Gold & Jewelry Street

  Hi, Friends! πŸ‘‹

I visited Jongno Jewelry Street today to shop for matching couple rings!

Getting to Jongno Jewelry Street is super easy, and I'll walk you through the best ways to reach this sparkling destination in Seoul!

By Subway (Recommended)

The most convenient way to visit Jongno Jewelry Street is by taking the subway. Here are your options:

Option 1: Jongno 3-ga Station (Line 1, 3, or 5)

  • Take Line 1 (Dark Blue), Line 3 (Orange), or Line 5 (Purple) to Jongno 3-ga Station
  • Use Exit 11 for the quickest route to the jewelry district
  • Walk straight for about 2-3 minutes, and you'll see the iconic diamond monument marking the entrance

Option 2: Jonggak Station (Line 1)

  • Take Line 1 (Dark Blue) to Jonggak Station
  • Use Exit 3 and walk east along Jongno Street for about 5 minutes
  • You'll pass by Tapgol Park on your way to the jewelry district

By Bus

Several bus routes stop near Jongno Jewelry Street:

  • Get off at the Jongno 3-ga bus stop
  • Look for buses numbered 109, 151, 162, 171, 172, 272, 601, or 606
  • The jewelry street is just a short walk from the bus stop

By Taxi

Simply tell your driver "Jongno Gwigeumsok Geori" (μ’…λ‘œ κ·€κΈˆμ† 거리) or show them the address on your phone. Most drivers will know exactly where to take you! The landmark diamond sculpture makes it easy to spot.

I used the subway to get there. Came out Exit 8 at Jongno 3-ga and strolled down to Jongno 5-ga, popping into different jewelry shops along the street. 😎😎

As you walk down the street, you'll notice some larger buildings have multiple small shops inside them, and there are also standalone small shops. I'd recommend having a rough idea of the design and type of jewelry you want, then comparing prices between shops. Even for the same pure gold ring, the price differences between stores can be pretty significant.πŸ‘„πŸ‘„

As you walk along the street from Jongno 3-ga to Jongno 5-ga, you'll come across Jongmyo Shrine, which is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While you're exploring the jewelry district, I highly recommend adding a visit to Jongmyo—it's one of Korea's most important historical sites and makes for a great addition to your itinerary.

In my experience, the shops tend to get a bit cheaper as you move from Jongno 3-ga toward Jongno 5-ga. So this time, I got our couple rings at a shop closest to the Jongno 5-ga end. Of course, gold prices are tied to international market rates, but with the Korean won's exchange rate being pretty low these days, if you're visiting Korea from abroad, you can probably get a better deal thanks to the favorable exchange rate.

There's also Gwangjang Market near Jongno 5-ga, so grabbing some delicious food and exploring the market makes for a perfect combo. How about picking up some beautiful jewelry as a souvenir while exploring the Jongno area?😍😍😍
